University of Oxford

The Department of Cardiovascular Medicine carries out both basic and translational research and is part of the Oxford Biomedical Research Centre, a partnership between the Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals NHS Trust.

Prof. Casadei’s team works on the nitric and redox regulation of myocardial calcium handling and arrhythmogenesis.

Barbara CasadeiBarbara Casadei

Barbara graduated in medicine at the University of Pavia, Italy but carried out her clinical and research training at the University of Oxford. She is currently a British Heart Foundation Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine in Oxford. Her research programme spans from basic aspects of myocardial nitroso-redox signalling to patient-based investigations with a focus on atrial fibrillation.

Jemma HopewellJemma Hopewell

Jemma Hopewell is an Associate Professor and Senior Scientist in Genetic Epidemiology and Clinical Trials at CTSU, NDPH, University of Oxford, and a British Heart Foundation Intermediate Fellow. Jemma leads a team in a programme of research focusing on pharmacogenomics, cardiovascular genetic epidemiology, and trial-based studies. She has particular interests in determining predictors of patient response to cardiovascular therapies, using genetics to improve our understanding of drug targets and disease mechanisms, and genomic characterisation of vascular risk factors.
