IDIBAPS

Both Dr. Lluis Mont and Dr. Eduard Guasch are cardiologists at Hospital Clínic and carry out their research work within IDIBAPS.

The Institut d’Investigacions Biomédiques August Pi i Sunyer (IDIBAPS) is a public research centre dedicated to translational research in the field of biomedicine. Its mission is to integrate state of the art basic research and quality clinical research.

Founded in 1996, IDIBAPS integrates the Catalan Ministry of Economy and Knowledge (DEC), the University of Barcelona's Faculty of Medicine (UB), the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona (HCB) and the Institut d'Investigacions Biomèdiques de Barcelona of the Spanish Council for Scientific Research (IIBB-CSIC). HCB, a linked third party of IDIBAPS, has a long reputation of excellence in clinical care provision, training and research at national and international levels. The HCB-IDIBAPS is a very active actor in the scientific research field.

Overall, 465 researchers are accredited by IDIBAPS, grouped in 5 main areas and 59 top-level research teams. The number of publications is increasingly growing. In 2013, IDIBAPS researchers co-authored 1,005 original publications in high impact factor scientific journals, excluding review articles or participation in clinical guidelines. The global impact factor for the journals where the abovementioned articles were published added up to 5,595 IF points (averaging 5.6 IF points per article), showing a year-to-year progression of 4.9% and a 5-year increase or 83.3%. Over 72% of the 2013 articles were published in journals included in the first quartile of impact in their field.
